Superb shaver. Been using Braun shavers for a long time. Upgraded based on a review in a magazine. After well over a year of use with it, it appears to be the perfect shaver. The trimmer on it is not anywhere near as good as previous Braun models' trimmers I used, so I got a $30ish little beard-friendly lithium-ion wahl for that instead.

Panasonic ES-LA63-S Arc IV Multi Flex Nanotech Rechargeable Shaver, Silver Review

Panasonic ES-LA63-S Arc IV Multi Flex Nanotech Rechargeable Shaver, Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Background:
About 15 years ago I tried all kinds of electric razors (not Panasonic though). Then, the winner was Braun. It was the only shaver that I didn't have to go over a blade with afterwards. I've used every iteration of Braun (their top of the line ones) since then until their current model. (Remingtons are junk, Norelco pulled hair and never gave me a clean shave, it missed thicker hairs, there were other brands, etc). So I will basically compare the performance of this shaver to the newish (1.5 year old Braun Pulsonic self cleaning shaver which I've used exclusively until now).
A little background about me that is important for this review is that I have fast growing thick beard. I can shave more than twice a day and have a 5 o'clock shadow. And on top of that I cut myself if I used a manual razor. I have cut myself with electric razors too (I don't even know how that's possible).
So that out of the way, I can start the review.
The shave:
Wet (wet means with shaving cream, not just water): This was the best shave I've had, neck, face, and all. I was always told you can't get as close to shaving with a blade, but I can't tell the difference. I was extremely pleasantly surprised.
Dry (before taking a shower): Wasn't as close as the wet and not as comfortable but it was better than the Braun. Best dry shaver I've used.
Cleaning:
I was worried because there is an even more expensive model with the cleaning base which made me expect a long involved cleaning procedure. It doesn't! Just rinse with water and push the power button long enough for it to go to cleaning mode (repeat with foil off). It freed me from having to buy cleaning cartridges I supposed so that's a plus.
Other:
I feel guilty using it in the shower because of how much water/heat is wasted (lets say a few minutes of wasted hot water during the shave...). Also since it's a little quieter than the Braun, I can tell that it's going over an area that still needs to be shaved (hear hairs being cut). So I'd rather use it on a sink.
Instructions don't say how to make the battery last longer. Should I charge after each use? Should I keep using it until it dies? Should I maintain a 50% charge? etc.
I could not download the manual online. The website-help directed me to buy it at the parts section. I told them I wanted to see the manual before I decide if I want the razor. I want to see how to clean it etc. They were very polite and thanked me for my feedback. But I still couldn't download the manual online, I honestly would have a hard time buying anything expensive blindly without looking at the instructions.
I think even though buying an electric razor has a higher initial cost, one saves money in the long run as the cost of consumables is almost zero (as opposed to buying disposable razors).
I was pleasantly surprised the head pivots in 2 different directions so that I don't have to point it carefully at my face.
Conclusion:
I highly recommend it. It's my first Panasonic and I wish I had the chance to try Panasonics earlier.
I took 1 star off for lack of a user's manual online and lack of battery care instructions.
EDIT (Dec 2009):
Thanks for the comments, there is the a link to the product manual in the comment section.
After using it for 2 months, I still think it's the best shaver I've used. One drawback I found was that it's hard to shave sideburns precisely with it since the head is so big (trimmer isn't that great). The motor is in the head though so the size of the head is necessarily big.
Also, I agree with other reviewers about how a stand should be included. Washing it and then letting it sit on a towel is not the most elegant solution.
EDIT (June 2010):
I'm still using this shaver exclusively. I still recommend it. But I have some more notes.
-I hate the lock button (to lock the shaver head to prevent it from swiveling) It's just easier to hold the head in your hands than try to adjust it just so that the lock button can slide.
-I mostly use it dry even though i get a closer shave when wet. It's more convenient and I'm lazy.
-I use it wet when I have to go to something formal. And this is still the best shave I've gotten regardless if it's electric or manual shaver. It takes several passes though but that's ok. There is no danger of getting cut and it's cheaper than blades.
EDIT (Dec 2010):
I'm not sure I like the price fluctuations. If I had paid for it (esp MSRP), I would be extremely angry and feel ripped off. I've seen the price dip to less than a third of original asking price. This is probably because a new model is out. Sooo, it makes me wonder how much is it really worth? It makes me not want to buy the newest model Panasonic shavers anymore since obviously I'm being taken advantage of. Just price it fairly. I don't want to play games.

Braun Series 5 (8985) Men's Shaver Review

Braun Series 5 (8985) Men's Shaver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I shave everyday and thus have used many electric shavers in my time. I have found that the Braun self-cleaning shaver is the best. It gives me the closest shave and also has that great self-cleaning unit which completely cleans and lubricates the shaver. The reason why I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 is because the cleaning cartridges are quite expensive and basically need to be replaced every month. One way to make them last longer is to clean your shaver by every other use rather than everytime.

Every man's style and stubble is different - the Braun Series 5 (8985) shaver is as happy tackling light overnight stubble as it is a weekend's worth of heavygrowth by getting rid of those frustrating problem hairs that lie flat to skin.
Pressing the shaver harder, repeatedly going over the same area, risking skin irritation is no longer necessary because the sleekly styled Braun Series 5 (8985) helps give you a hassle-free, close, and comfortable shave any day of the week.
The Braun Series 5 (8985), captures the hairs other shavers leave behind. Braun Series 5 (8985) features Gillette Blade Technology that cuts hairs close in a single stroke without pulling or tugging. Braun's patented Power-Comb lifts problem hairs that lie flat to the skin to avoid missed hairs in hard to shave areas. The unique SmartFoil pattern captures hairs growing in different directions while the 3-Stage Cutting System progressively shaves long hairs and stubble for a closer shave in fewer strokes. Braun Series 5 (8985) Clean&Renew System automatically cleans, lubricates, dries and charges to keep the shaver feeling like new every day. This rechargeable shaver features an ergonomic shape and non-slip handle for easy maneuvering. Includes charging and replacement parts indicator, 50-minutes of cordless shave time from a 1-hour full charge and a 5-minute quick charge for 1 shave.

Braun Series 7- 760cc Shaver Review

Braun Series 7- 760cc Shaver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I thought I'd wait a full month (and cleaning cycle) to write this review, and I have to give this razor 5 stars almost across the board:
Shave quality - ***** - After a few days I would have given this only 4 stars, as it seemed only as good as the Braun 7526 I replaced with this razor. But after a full 3 weeks or more, my face (or my technique) adjusted and this razor gives me a better shave than the 7526 in about the same time.
Comfort - ***** - This razor is far more comfortable than the 7526, not nearly as much irritation. I took care of my 7526, replacing the blades and foil annually, but this is a far superior razor. As a bonus, it is also quieter, which my wife likes too.
Cleaning - ***** - I have now run through a full cleaning cycle, and I think the automatic system helps save a bit of the fluid in the cartridge; I gained at least 4-5 days on the first cartridge over what I used to get (4 weeks). Cartridge changing is just as easy as before.
Styling - *** - The Braun guys should have asked their auto compatriots for help here. A silver razor, refrigerator white cleaning stand, and black power cord. Not nearly as nice as the black on black of the 7526. Just an esthetic issue, but you have to wonder what they were thinking.
Charging - it automatically charges each time you put it back in the cleaning unit, whether you clean it or not. Much better than the old model where you had to select "charge" every time.
Overall, this is a great razor - I don't know if it's because of the sonic feature, but whatever, it works. I wanted to be critical of this razor due to its cost, but it is a step above the $130-150 razor.

Series 7 is the "first of a new kind" -a new top of the line shaving system from Braun and a revolution in shaving technology. It has been uncompromisingly engineered to capture more hair with every stroke, even problem hairs, for Braun.s closest and most comfortable shave ever.
Braun Series 7 motor sends over 10,000 micro-vibrations per minute through the shaver head to gently stimulate the skin, causing it to ripple, which helps capture and shave more hairs with every stroke. The hair is shaved with high-speed precision using leading edge Gillette Blade Technology. For added closeness and comfort, Series 7 incorporates a Sensitive Flexing Head, which follows the contours of a man's face with twice the pivoting angle of other Braun shavers, and shaves hard-to-reach areas using touch sensitive foils that respond to the slightest change in skin surface. Additionally, Braun Series 7 is the world's first shaver brand with an ENERGY STAR-qualified battery charger, which recognizes the shaver's energy-efficient design and Braun's commitment to environmental sustainability.
Braun Series 7 features the world's most intelligent Clean&Renew system that automatically cleans, lubricates, dries and charges the shaver at the touch of a button. For occasions when the Clean&Renew system is not available, the Series 7 shaver head can be washed under running water. The shaver also incorporates a modern, ergonomic design that combines an elegant silver and chrome finish with sleek lines.

Braun 9595 Series 7 Electric Shaver Review

Braun 9595 Series 7 Electric Shaver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Here is a breakdown of my evaluation of the Braun Pulsonic System 9595CC with LCD Screen:
** Pros **
>> Construction
The constuction of this shaver is superb. The body of the shaver is made from plastic but it has a very refined metallic look. The LCD screen seems to be made of glass and looks to be fairly scratch resistant. The shaver itself is made in Germany and has the look and feel of quality construction. The shaver is fairly weighty (but not too heavy) which adds to the overall impression of a solid build.
>> Function/Performance
The shave is just about as close as that from a shaving blade. Maybe there is something to this "Pulsonic" technology after all (10,000 Micro-Vibrations per minute) which is supposed to help lift hair to provide a closer cut. I was unable to see or feel any stuble after a shave. The shaved area actually feels silky smooth! Thanks to the new and improved screen foil and cutterblock for the Pulsonic 9595CC.
The Pulsonic has a flexing/pivoting head to help the shaver conform to the contour of your face. I personally don't really care very much for it as I'm accustomed to flexing my wrist to angle the shaver to my face. The pivoting head can also be locked in place to tackle the hard to reach area under the nose.
The pop-up trimmer is very functional and does as good a job as a dedicated trimmer.
>> Features
Cleaning Convenience: The Clean & Renew system automatically cleans, lubricates, and dries the saver at the touch of a button. It also has a 25-second quick cleaning cycle for when you have to use your shaver in a hurry (This feature is only available on the Braun Pulsonic System 9595CC with LCD Screen, not on the lesser equipped Braun Pulsonic System 9585CC with LED Lights). After each cleaning, the shaver smells clean and lemony.
The shaver can be washed under tap water but with this method of cleaning, the manual states that the shaver head needs to be lubed with a few drops of lubricant every week or so.
The shaver sports an LCD screen which has a "hygiene" and a "battery" indicator each of which has six graduations/levels arranged in a semi-circular fashion and occupies half of the screen. The hygiene indicator shows when the shaver needs to be cleaned. The battery indicator, of course, indicates how much power is left.
No time to wait around for the shaver to recharge? No problem. The power cord can be hooked up directly to the shaver.
>> Warranty
The shaver has a 2-year warranty (excludes the Cutter and Foil part - you're advised to replace this every 18 months).
>> Ergonomics
The back and sides of the shaver are rubberized to help you to maintain a firm and comfortable grip while shaving.
>> Aesthetics
The Braun Pulsonic System 9595CC exudes elegance, class and sophistication with its sleek lines and its beautifully crafted elements that convey a work of intricate and robust engineering.
** Cons **
I have only one. Here it is for completeness sake: >> Price
The real gripe I have about this shaver is not so much its price because it's a one-time expense but the price of the Clean & Renew cartridges. Talk about "giving away razors to sell razor blades" except in this case the razor is, patently, not free. Braun advises that the cartridge be replaced after 30 cleaning cycles or 6-8 weeks WCF.
** Additional Points **
>> Economic Considerations
Some economically-conscious people have suggested using isopropyl alcohol mixed with a lubricant to refill the cartridge. The factory cleaning fluid actually contains a highly volatile alcohol and a lubricant component, which is apparent after each cleaning because the residual lubricant can be felt if you run your finger through the sides of the shaver head. They further suggest removing the cartridge and capping it after each cleaning to prevent the loss of the highly volatile fluid. That's too much of a hassle and I don't see it as a necessity because once the cartridge is in place, the openings of the cartridge form a watertight seal with the cleaning component and the loss of the solution through evaporation is very minimal. At least one individual suggested changing the cartridge every 6-months. ** Conclusion **
The Braun Pulsonic System 9595CC with LCD is pricey but it is worth every penny. Don't let the price of the Clean & Renew cartridges deter you from getting this little gem because you can always forego the automated cleaning option and simply use running tap water. I personally have no regrets about getting this shaver and I highly recommend it. Go on, get it and see for yourself how the Braun Pulsonic System 9595CC with LCD lives up to its hype.

Braun Shaver Series 5 570cc Review

Braun Shaver Series 5 570cc
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Series 5 is a re-design of Braun's popular 360 Complete. It uses the same cutter, so the shave is the same as the 360. The differences are in the overall shape - Braun has done a great job with the re-design. The shaver is easier to grip and has the same basic form factor as the top of the line Braun Series 7 (Pulsonic). Unlike the 360 Compete, the Series 5 is washable under the tap. It's NOT submersible or a wet shaver, but you can safely use water to clean it.
This model lacks the pulsating action of the Pulsonic, but don't let that stop you from buying it. I've used the Pulsonic and, on my face, the Series 5 does as good of a job in most spots, and a wee bit better on the neck. I also find the "push up" format for the sideburn trimmer to be better/easier to use than the "flip out" format on the Pulsonic.
The best part of any Braun shaver is the cleaning system. In a word, it's perfect - no other cleaning system comes close. Works well, and leaves the shaver spotless and lemony-fresh. The down side, of course, is that you need to purchase refill cartridges. If you clean every day, expect about 4 weeks per cartridge. I get mine to last about 4-5 months by cleaning once a week using the cleaning base, and cleaning the rest of the time with water. You have to remove the cartridge and re-cap it so you don't lose solution via evaporation.
Neat trick for quick cleaning - just click the head release button but don't remove the head. Then turn on the razor and let the stubble fall out. Gets about 75% of the whiskers out in about 2 seconds. Safe for the razor - the tip is in the user's manual.
The Series 5 comes in two models (760 and 790) - the only difference is the number of lights to show you the battery charge, so look for whichever is on sale. It also comes without a cleaning base (the "cc" models have the cleaning system, those without the "cc" in the model do not).
If you favor a gentle shave over a ultra close shave, the Braun is for you. While I like the shave from the Series 5 (more so than the shave from the Pulsonic), I have to say that I prefer the shave from the Norelco Arcitec - it's a rotary shaver, but still quite comfortable, and excels at getting those pesky neck hairs. My absolute favorite foil shaver is the Panasonic Arc IV - 90% as comfortable as a Braun, but closer and faster. Check all of them out - all are great shavers with unique features.

Panasonic ES8109S Vortex Wet/Dry Shaver with Nano Technology and HydraClean System Review

Panasonic ES8109S Vortex Wet/Dry Shaver with Nano Technology and HydraClean System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, so this is my third Panasonic wet/dry shaver in about 5 years and, by far, this one is the best one yet. I've experimented with other manufacturers' shavers over the years, including Brauns, Norelcos and Grundig shavers, but I've ultimately found nirvana, ok, not quite nirvana, but a most pleasant shaving experience with Panasonic shavers. I love Panasonic's shavers because I like being able to shave in the shower with an electric shaver and a little glycerin based shaving foam (Gilette Series foam in the long silver tube works best for me and doesn't gum up the shaver like gels do). I swear, this unbeatable combination (i.e., shower steam, Panasonic wet/dry shaver and Gilette Series foam) shaves me closer than even the best blades that Gilette offers (at present, the Gilette Fusion) with far less irritation and with no annoying little cuts in conspicuous locations around my face and/or neck.
Just to review, my first Panasonic wet/dry was great and served me well for about 3 years, but when the Panasonic models came out a few years ago with the Vortex cleaning systems, I just had to have one, so I moved on to the model ES8078 wet/dry shaver. The ES8078 served me well for a year-and-a-half - until I dropped that bad boy in the shower earlier this week! 'Nuf said. It didn't break into a zillion pieces or anything, but the motor just stopped working. (It's actually kinda funny because I was so preoccupied with ensuring the safekeeping of that little shaver ever since I brought it home, chiding my poor wife for even looking at it wrong, and then my dumb arse drops the dang thing in the shower. AAARGHHHH!!!) Anyhow, after a quick review of the top of the line shavers from various manufacturers currently available (including the new Braun Pulsonic models), I opted to go for the latest offering from Panasonic. Even though the new Brauns cost $100 more than the Panasonics, their motors are still slower, and you still can't shave with 'em wet. For the uninitiated, higher motor speed = faster moving blades = less friction = less irritation. Panasonics have consistently had the highest motor speed available in any electric shaver.
I've shaved with the new ES8109S shaver for a few days now, and my first impression after the very first shave was that I got a very close shave (consistent with the performance of my prior Panasonics) and, try to understand this, my face did not FEEL as though I had just shaved. It may sound a little odd, but you know how your face feels sensitive to the touch after you typically shave? Well, that sensation, at least for me, was far less apparent after shaving with the new Panasonic. Heck, maybe it's the new curved blade and foil assembly that reduces irritation or something. In this respect, the new ES8109S actually outperforms Panasonic's prior top of the line offering (the ES8078) and actually causes even less shaving irritation than that model (which itself wasn't all that irritating to begin with). Also, much like the prior models, the little pop up trimmer on the side of the new shaver is great not only for trimming sideburns (which I actually never use it for), but also for capturing those awkward little hairs that lie flat or may be becoming ingrown. The latest model is also quieter than the last model and has a more substantial feel to it while holding it.
Oh, one more thing, the ES8109S comes with Panasonic's latest iteration of its Vortex Cleaning and charging base, which is slightly different from its prior models, but appears to use the same cleaning cartridge. The Vortex quietly cleans, lubricates and even fully recharges your shaver for you (alternatively, you can just plug the power cable for the Vortex directly into the shaver to recharge it). The cleaning/lubricating solution in the Vortex consists of a slender cartridge containing a detergent based solid that becomes "activated" when it mixes with water in the Vortex base. The cleaner is not alcohol-based, so it does not evaporate over time like the Braun cleaning solution does - along with the money you'll spend on their big, expensive refills.
In summary, I highly recommend the Panasonic ES8109S shaver to persons like me with sensitive skin that is prone to irritation (I know you're thinking, "Why didn't he just say that from the outset?") Hope this review helps!
LONG TERM UPDATE! - Well, I've had 8109S for almost one full year now and it's still going strong. I've noticed it's become slightly less efficient at capturing the few hairs on my cheeks that tend to lie flat, so it's about time for the annual changing of the foil, which I know (based on past experience with Panasonics) will restore the shaver to its fullest hair capturing & cutting potential. One tip I have about cleaning the razor - I shave and rinse clean my shaver every day, and I only clean it in the Vortex when it needs charging which, for me, is about once every two weeks. This cuts down on the usage of the cleaning cartridge. The need to clean your shaver will depend in large part on what you shave with (I use a foam, which tends to rinse cleaner than creams and gels). Also, one more tip regarding the cleaning cartridges in the Vortex cleaning system - you DON'T HAVE TO replace the cleaning solution at the manufacturer recommended interval. You can definitely get away with using them longer. I tend to use them until the service light on the Vortex base turns on, then I change the cleaning cartridge and water in the Vortex and it's good to go. I'm only on my third cleaning cartridge in the year I've owned the razor.
EVEN LONGER TERM UPDATE! - Well, it's a little over a year-and-a-half since I purchased this shaver, and it has died on me. It all started about two weeks ago when I noticed that it was holding less of a charge between chargings, i.e., I could get progressively less and less shaves per charge. Then the display started giving unintelligible readings that did not correspond to the charge level. Then, today, I go to try to turn on the shaver and no response. All in all, this shaver performed exceptionally well throughout it's lifespan and, considering the price of "next-best option" Gillette Fusion blades, was far less expensive, and less irritating, over time than shaving with blades. I have to admit I thought it would've lasted me a little longer than it did as past Panasonics I've owned have lasted longer. Now, I could try to have this thing repaired for some astronomical price, only to have it stop working again. Or, I could take this opportunity to purchase Panasonic's latest offering, the Arc IV Nano Men's Wet/Dry Rechargeable Shaver, which I've scoped out and seen positive reviews of here on Amazon. I think I'm going to go with the new Panasonic, but this time without the Vortex cleaning base as this was the 2nd Panasonic shaver I've owned (one of which I dropped) that I am now stuck with a useless Vortex cleaning base. Happy shopping!

Braun Replacement Pulsonic 9000 Series Foil Review

Braun Replacement Pulsonic 9000 Series Foil
Average Reviews:

I have shaved with a Braun for 15+ years. I find this new shaver to be an improvement over previous Braun shavers. Positives: Big improvement is in design. The pulsonic is slimmer and easier to hold when shaving. After 3+ weeks - I can honestly say that it shaves better/closer. One can flush the shaver clean with tap water when traveling or away from the cleaning/charging unit. Negatives: It is noisier when shaving and when cleaning. Also the side trimmer is not user friendly as in past models. The past models let you use the side trimmer to cut neck hairs - when needed. This is not possible now.
Overall better.

Braun Series 5-550cc Shaver System, Black and Silver Review

Braun Series 5-550cc Shaver System, Black and Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used Braun shavers for about 20 years (my first was a Series 1-2-3). I've had several different ones since, ending up with a first-generation Series 7 Pulsonic. I was never convinced the Pulsonic was as good as the Activator it replaced. Maybe a year and a half ago, I started getting bad skin irritation on my neck after I shaved. I've tried several different things with varying degrees of success. And I'm using Nivea For Men Q10 face lotion moisturizer which has made a big difference.
-A Philips-Norelco travel shaver I own showed promise, so I tried the Arcitec with lousy results and returned it to Philips.
-The Philips-Nivea for Men shaver works really, really well, but I didn't like shaving in the shower and it took too long to shave in the morning. Also, no way you can use it dry in the car if you're running late.
-Back to Braun. I picked up a MobileShave M60-B last Christmas at Wal-Mart for about $15. The new foil is huge improvement over the old Braun PocketShaver, but it leaves too many long hairs on my neck.
-A traveling family member bought me a Braun Series 1 model that's sold in Asia, the 110. Other than color, the 110 looks just like the 150 you can buy in the US, but is powered by two AA batteries and has the new-style "Smart" foil. This is an impressive shaver, but again leaves some long hair on my neck.
-Remembering how much I liked the old Activator, I decided to try the current Series 5 since it uses a similar foil and blade set up. I bought the old model 550. Bingo. Great shave like I remembered from my old Activator. It recharges quickly, and the lithium-ion batteries hold a good charge. I also like the way the 550 feels in my hand.
-About a month ago, I found the new Series 5 Model 550-cc at Wal-Mart and decided to take the plunge. The new Optifoil is a definite improvement over the "Smart" foil which was darn good itself. Very close shave, even on the neck. I was happy with the original 550 (it doesn't have the clean-and-charge base), but I'm happy I bought this one. The new color scheme of solid black looks classy too, but the blue-plastic power button looks a little weak. (It doesn't light up like the button on my Pulsonic, and the package seems to show it lit. No big deal, but worth mentioning). This model continues to be made in Germany, and it looks and feels like it is very well built. With the new 550cc you get the clean-and-charge base, a travel case, and a cleaning brush.
In the past year, I've probably bought more shavers than I have in the past 20. I suggest going for a Braun Series 5 and skipping the others. I think you'll like it.

Braun Series 7- 790cc Pulsonic Shaver Review

Braun Series 7- 790cc Pulsonic Shaver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
so i bought one of these from amazon, very early adopter.
it is very similar in general to earlier clean and charge foil shavers from braun,
of which my last one was unceramoniously dumped in the garbage after a year for a rotary
from phillips, which was used for about another year and then dumped for the 4-blade gillette razor.
but now i'm back to trying electric for no particular reason other than it is tiresome buying
razor blade that have been specially engineered to need replacing after a week of use.
plus, while no matter what the manufacturers will tell you, there is no electric razor that
shaves as close as a blade, though sometimes the blade shaves a little too close...causing cuts, razor burn,
ingrown hairs, etc. it's enough to make a guy want to grow a beard.
enter the braun pulsonic. this is basically a very well-made, high end "activator" or "complete 360"
with the added feature that it vibrates. i suppose this is the same technology in the gillette "power" series
and other regular razors that use a AAA battery to vibrate as they shave...it does result in a ever-so-slightly
better shave. so this foil, which uses the nice almost-random pattern of differently-sized holes for diffent hairs (which was avail. only in germany for a long time, for some reason, then appeared in the u.s. with the braun 360) has a nice pivoting head, standard little pop-out trimmer, and vibrates like a sonicare toothbrush while you shave. the vibration is not really noticable over the regular noise and vibration present in a regular electric razor, but the results seem to speak for themselves. it seems to be a much gentler, more effective electric razor than i have used in a long time. the only thing is, it isn't a blade. after spending several passes with it over my cheek, for example, i can still run my hand against the growth and feel a little stubble there, which is never the case with the razor blade. on the other hand, i expect that over time there will be less shaving irritation, so it's not a bad trade off. the thing to note is that it's really made to be used with the little "charge and clean" cartridges, which according to braun last for 30 shaves, so each one lasts a month.
at $4 per cartridge, it's not too great an expense. word of warning though: if you take the razor out of the charger before it's finished the cleaning cycle (easy to do since much of it is silent, if you don't wait for the 'clean' light to come on) and sometimes even if you wait for it to be clean, and just start shaving, you may experience the unique and painful feeling of shaving with a small amount of rubbing alcohol on the razor foil.
i recommend making sure it's quite dry before use, shake it a little or blow on th foil or something.
the clean and charge flud is a lemon-scented alcohol and lubricant solution that you don't want touching newly-shaven skin.overall, it seems to be a good investment. the razor is well-made for sure, very solid, with a rubber grip handle on the back that is pretty comfortable to hold. it moves very easily over the face, even with 3-day stubble, and is noticably more comfortable than other electrics i've used. i think it will take about 2 weeks for the skin/hair to get used to it again, but...good-bye razor blades! hello pulsonic!

Series 7, the "first of a new kind" - a new top of the line shaving system from Braun and a revolution in shaving technology.
For added closeness and comfort, Braun Series 7 incorporates a Sensitive Flexing Head, which follows the contours of a man's face with twice the pivoting angle of other Braun shavers, and shaves hard-to-reach areas using touch sensitive foils that respond to the slightest change in skin surface.
It features a new Fast Clean mode (available only in 9595 model) that cleans the shaver in just 25 seconds, which is ideal for men on the go. For occasions when the Clean&Renew system is not available, the Series 7 shaver head can be washed under running water. The shaver also incorporates a modern, ergonomic design that combines an elegant silver and chrome finish with sleek lines.

Braun Series 7-760cc Pulsonic Shaver System, Black and Silver Review

Braun Series 7-760cc Pulsonic Shaver System, Black and Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had the benefit of owning the Braun 3-390cc, 3-370, and now the 7-760cc...all in the last 4 months. Before this I owned the 8585 Activator, and before that the 6520 Flex Integral. Before that I forget, but I have been shaving with Braun shavers for about 20 years. They rarely go bad...I just get enticed to buy the latest technology.
I bought the 3-390cc about 4 months ago. Before I even had a chance to give it a proper review, TSA lost my shaving kit while inspecting my baggage, and so my shaver was gone. This shaver lacked power. If I skipped a day of shaving, it really bogged down on two days worth of stubble. I felt like I had to have my face 5 times to get everything. And the cleaning system was very rudimentary. If you dropped the shaver into the cleaning system and pressed the button to latch it in there, it cleaned the shaver automatically, whether it was dirty or not. Even if you just cleaned it a few hours ago. No "sensing technology". I don't believe the 3-390cc cleaner had a heated dry either because it would still be wet with the alcohol solution 6-8 hours later. Also, after only 3 months there was a build up of scum in the cleaner where the shaver sits. I opened up the shaver's blade cartridge a couple of times and it still had a few whiskers in there. I probably would have rated it 3 stars.
Since TSA lost my 3-390 shaver, but I still had the cleaning system at home, I bought a standalone 3-370 with no cleaning system. I found out quickly it didn't work with the cleaning system from the 3-390cc. I inquired with Braun (P&G) and they said it should, but it didn't, so I sent it back. The 3-370 shaves exactly like the 3-390. I think it has one less LED indicator, and that's it.
I decided this was a sign that I needed to look higher up in the Braun shaving lineup. I'm amazed I even found this shaver because Amazon's search engine is so quirky and doesn't provide this shaver as an option in the Braun Store. This is by far the best looking Braun shaver I have ever seen, and may be the best overall shaver I have ever owned.
The 7-760 is MUCH more powerful than the 3 Series shavers. I shaved two days worth of stubble today like a hot knife goes through butter. This shaver has easily cut my shaving time in half. It does a much better job with neck hair that lays flat and is hard to get. The Pulsonic technology vibrates and almost gives you a face massage while you're shaving. Braun recommends that you set the Pulsonic strength level to high for the best shave, and they are right. I've noticed that this shaver allows me to get closer to my chin beard without pulling any of the whiskers out (ouch!). It has a much more precise feel to it. The pop out trimmer is a little unusual, but I have gotten used to it already and it does a good job.
The 7-760 cleaning system is much better too. It senses the level of cleaning needed and reports what level cleaning it intends to do via an indicator light, but waits until you actually push a "GO" button. I really like this new feature because my 8585 had this sensing technology, but proceeded with cleaning as soon as you dropped the shaver into the cleaning system. The 7-760 cleaner is built much more like the cleaner from the 8585 Activator, and I think it does a better job than the new style of cleaner that comes with the 3 Series. No scum is accumulating in the cleaner, and not a single whisker is left in the shaver after it is done with a light cleaning. If you clean the shaver ever day it appears that it never has to do a deep cleaning, because I haven't seen one yet.
Braun is skimping on the case and brush these days. The case is the same for the 3-370, 3-390 & 7-760. The 7-760 gets a little bit bigger brush, but that's it. No room in the case to take along the power cord. The cleaning systems for each model use the exact same Clean & Renew refills, which is nice.
All in all, I recommend this shaver. If you've tried a cheaper Braun and aren't happy, take them up on their 60-day money back offer and get this one. I think you'll see a big difference. I wish the 7-760cc didn't cost me $220, but it appears I'm an early adopter, so maybe the price will come down.

Braun Series 7 Combi 70S Cassette Replacement Pack (Formerly 9000 Pulsonic) Review

Braun Series 7 Combi 70S Cassette Replacement Pack (Formerly 9000 Pulsonic)

I've owned the braun series 7 shaver for about 3 years now. I tend to replace the cartridge ever year. The first replacement I purchased had a new design (blue cutting strip), and cut really well.
The most recent replacement no longer has the blue cutting strip down the middle, and tends to pull a lot. I've read other reviews, and this seems to be happening to others. This makes for a very painful shaving experience.
I'm going to go out and buy this product from a local store, and return the amazon version. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
Buyers beware - do not buy this product until Braun or Amazon gets this issue fixed.

Braun Series Pulsonic Shaver System Review

Braun Series Pulsonic Shaver System

I've had a top of the line Braun 8000 series (8595) for about 6+ years. It just started to fail recently - I didn't feel like trying another replacement foil/blade and after over 2,000 shaves - I guess it's hard to complain. If this new one lasts the same duration, then it will be well worth the money for just over [??:Content].12 per day plus consumables (cleaning solution & replacement foils).
I opened this new shaver morning (790-CC4), charged it, and started using it. I like the variable setting (3-steps) for mild to intense. I like the feel of it and although the display is less sophisticated than my old one, this one might be more practical in usage. It has a Li-Ion battery and so is a bit lighter, and seems well-constructed.
The real test is the shave - and this is the best result I've ever had from shaving with an electric. On rare occasions I'll use a blade for a special occasion and a blade is usually much closer than most electrics - but I've been okay with a slight sacrifice using an electric in the past. My face right now feels so shockingly smooth, I'd swear I shaved with a blade this morning... So the proof is in the pudding - and I'd wholeheartedly recommend this shaver if you're partial to electrics.
