(More customer reviews)I had used a Remington Classic since around 1986. Since they stopped making that, I just wanted a simple shaver that can handle longer stubble without fuss (I often go a few days without shaving). This one fits the bill. Things I like:
1. No fancy "cleaning station" to take up yet more real estate on my bathroom counter - also less bulky for travel, and I can handle cleaning under the tap and with a brush anyway.
2. Hacks through a few days of stubble without any problem - actually a pleasure to use, feels kinda like a cadillac running around your face
3. There is a trimmer in between the two foils, which I believe helps to handle the longer hairs.
4. Also a pop-up trimmer for doing stuff like cleaning up the hairs above the ear area etc. Works very well.
5. Charges up reasonably quickly (a couple of hours).
6. Nice foil guard which also covers the "on" switch for traveling, to make sure it can't switch on in your bag
7. Very simple universal charger which is light and works with 110-240V.
8. The head has independent suspension - each foil moves like on its own springs. Very nice feeling on the face.
9. Good quality German engineering.
All in all I am very happy with this shaver. The first time I used it, it seemed to not give a very close shave, and pulled a couple of hairs - but subsequent shaves have been much better. Maybe the shaver needed a day to run in, or maybe I got used to it... either way, I actually look forward to shaving now.
My only concern is that there is apparently a nickel metal hydride battery inside, rather than lithium, which means it'll probably eventually run out of recharge cycles (like my electric toothbrush, which is a few years old now and doesn't hold a charge very long any more). Also I can't see any instructions for replacing the battery, so I guess once that goes then it's time for a new shaver. But in the meantime I'm sure I'll get a couple of years at least of good, fuss-free shaving.

The blades seems to have lost sharpness. Also the charge doesn't last long, it only lasts for 2 shaves. I was expecting much more for $130 (price at that time). A waste of money.

(More customer reviews)This electric razor is just so much better than a Norelco, or any of the other triangular razors. It is easier to cut your side burns...and the side burn trimmer is better as well! You get a very close shave. So much so, that I don't really see much of a difference between this and a razor, even one with the 4 blades on it. We recently stayed over a friends house and in the morning I wanted to shave and used a hand razor, I forget the brand.....I realized how much I missed my Braun. No burning with the Braun. No nicks either. For that matter, it was just so much nicer when I came home and used my electric, and it just showed me how much I love my Braun. You can wash the heads or you can let the machine clean it. I will mention one thing. Don't think that if you do not clean it every day the liquid will last longer. It will not. It evaporates, so use it. It does keep everything clean, however it is also an extra expense, and one that you really do not need to use unless you have the need because of some kind of medical issue. The heads are so easy to clean, though once in a while I will buy another cartridge (btw, they are cheapest here). You can easily travel with this (without the cleaner/holder). One last thing, my wife loves that it doesn't leave a lot of shavings in the sink. If you are considering this, all I can say is go for it. You won't be looking back!

(More customer reviews)Of course, the title may not be saying much, since I use a shaver until it nearly falls apart, replacing the rechargeable batteries as they die. My last two shavers were a Remington Interceptor (which has the comb/trimmer between the cutters) and an ancient Remington triple screen. I have a fairly light beard, but do have a problem with hairs lying close to the skin. This has meant that even with the Interceptor I've had to use the side trimmer to cut those wayward hairs before the screen cutter would finish the job. The side cutters on both of my Remingtons failed within two months of each other, so a new shaver was mandatory. My son suggested I try a Braun.
I looked over the specs and decided on a Series 3. I felt the Series 5 and 7 were a bit too gimmicky for the price, and the Series 1 lacked the "comb", as Braun calls it, between the cutters. I had chosen the 370cc because I wanted to try out the cleaning/charging station, but the local Bed, Bath and Beyond store only had the 390cc in stock. With BB&B's liberal expiration date policy on store 20% coupons, the price was as good or better than anywhere else.
With the 390, I never use the trimmer, except for an occasional trim of my nearly non-existent side burns. The "comb" and cutters will grab those low-lying hairs, with a few extra passes, like no shaver I've ever used, and even take care of the occasional wild ear hair. The shave doesn't compare to a blade, but it is as good or better than any shaver I've ever used, and I have yet to get a shaver burn from it.
I've had it for about 5 weeks, and am in the process of running the battery full down before recharge three times, as recommended, to get full capacity. The first charge lasted about 3 weeks. The second charge is a little more than half gone, so it looks like 3 weeks on a charge is typical for my shaving. The shaver "Clean me" light comes on after every two or three shaves, so if you clean/charge it every few days, it will be ready to go when you have to travel. I drop it in the cleaner/charger daily, but don't plan to push the charger connection down until it needs cleaning, once I've gone through my full discharge cycles. When cleaning, the cleaning light stays on long enough for the alcohol-based cleaning fluid to evaporate, indicating that the shaver is dry enough to use. However, you can take off the head and run both the head and the shaver under the tap to clean it on the road. Even between cleanings, with the shaver in the station, the head will have a nice clean "lemony" smell, due to the proximity of the cleaning solution. It comes with a nice hard-side case for travel that should prevent any damage banging around in a suitcase.
At this point, if I had it to do over again, I would go with this shaver without a second thought.

Braun Series 3 340 Men's Shaver Review

(More customer reviews)Ive been a long time blade user... for years.. the last electric razor I used was over 10 years ago.. As a new father I find my daily time a little more rushed then it was a year ago.. :) My old razor was a Panasonic Wet/Dry unit.
So, I looked at reviews of many other electric razors. Came down to this Braun 340 Series 3. I picked my razor up at Target in the Spring of 09 for around $50. I could not see spending $50 more for the self cleaning stand and option (Braun 390 Series 3).. and the 370 is $20 more - and it gives you the "contour" head... neither of which I really feel you need when this razor is the same blade head!
This razor has several nice features (Pros);
Quick Recharge Time with NiMH batteries - Lights on the razor indicate charge/ low charge. 5 min quick charge if needed to get time in for a fast shave.
Feels good in your hand, hefty. Non slip grip, even when wet.
Easy to move flip-up clippers from the back.
Simple no bumble on-off push button.
Nice stand up or lay-down charge option.. base use is optional.
Washable, blades. Easy to care for.
Unit is shower use friendly. However Braun recommends shaving before washing your face. I do find that to work the best.
Battery life is very good. I do put it back on the charger once a week - even if it needs it or not. I did get a full 10 days out of the razor before the red "low charge" light came on. @ about 5 min a day of shaving. Even with the red light on, the razor stayed running @ full power. It regains a full charge after 1 hour.
And finally, - THE SHAVE! ITS GREAT! Smooth, clean, no hassle, no bumps. Ive only used the razor for two weeks - but I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM with bumps or rashes! The beauty of this razor is it has three cutting surfaces. Two foil sections, and then a center section that snips longer neck hairs. The razor as a whole does a really good job at "problem" areas like around my neck.. I had problems with my last razor in that area, and I always needed to clean up with a blade razor.
Cons - I guess I could say that I wont be looking foreword to a $25 blade set 18 months from now. But I do plan to go that route if it means this razor stays in top shape.
Cleaning, while running it under water is a snap. The guide says that weekly to use the oil and lube the blades. Not a big deal, but its something that you'll likely forget.

(More customer reviews)I have used electric shavers for almost 45 years and this is the best yet. I started shopping because local stores no longer stock replacement foils and cutters for my old Braun 3000.
I chose this mid-range product because the 7 series is way too expensive, the 5 series tilting heads seem too gimmicky and their replacement cutters cost more than $40 even though the foils seem to be identical in design to those of the 3 series.
The Series 3 370 is bigger and heavier than my old shaver, but the heft feels good and the handle design and rubberized gripping surfaces on both sides make it easy to hold and control.
I almost bought a series 3 340, but opted for the 370 for just $30 more because of the "lock" switch that lowers one foil and the middle cutter to make it easier to get at the area under the nose. I'm glad I did, because it really does work.
What surprised me most is how much more comfortable the shave is with the 370 than my old shaver with its single screen plus cutter bar. The independent movement of the foils and center cutter probably contributes to that comfort. The new foil design gives me a smoother shave as well, and the middle cutter does a good job of scavenging the odd long whisker that had evaded the old shaver. (At my age they're not black any more, so they're harder to spot and so may grow to some length before I see them.)
Especially in the neck area I notice that I'm shaving cleaner faster and with much less irritation than before.
The pop-up sideburn trimmer cuts well and rises high enough that it is easy to see where I'm trimming.
Because all of the series 3 models have an indicator light to show when the battery needs charging, I did not think it would matter that the 360 and 370 can be operated while the recharging cord is plugged in. That little bonus feature did turn out to be valuable though, when I forgot to charge it up and the battery went dead just when I was in a rush to touch up 5 o'clock shadow before heading out to a meeting. I did not have to wait several minutes for partial charge to get me through a cordless shave; just plugged in, finished my shave and headed out the door.
Another bonus is that the Series 3 370 is much quieter than the old shaver.
The only negative I have noticed is that this model comes with a nice zippered hard case, but there is no room for the cord in it, just the shaver.
By the way, the all-black 360 model is functionally identical, but comes with no case. Instead, it has a plastic snap-on foil protector that also shields the on/off button so it can't get turned on in your shaving kit while traveling. For some strange reason, the 360 model costs $20 more than the 370. Go figure.
Final note: There is another Series 3 370 model listed for less money on Amazon, but it is an older design with different cutters and is not featured among current models on Braun's web site.
